Hi, I am Matilda. I am an English teacher at Ueno Gakuen.
On January 9th I got to experience Hatsugama, the first tea ceremony of the new year, with the Tea Ceremony Club. The tea ceremony room felt like a special place, away from the rush of school life. Here I got to see some of the students outside of class practicing something they are passionate about. It was wonderful to see the care and dedication they put into the tea ceremony and to enjoy this tradition with both students and colleagues. This was also the first tea ceremony I have been a part of in Japan and I was so happy to share it with the students. Taking part in a tea ceremony requires you to slow down and appreciate the present with the people around you. This was a great way to start the year, reminding us to make the most of each moment. Thank you so much to the Tea Ceremony Club for this wonderful experience.![]()
